Hurricane Katrina had the most devastating impact on Louisiana where it damaged the Louisiana’s wetlands. It is not possible that the vegetation in the marshes may grow back. Vegetation along water sources has literally disappeared. Whatever remains have turned an unhealthy brown shade. Katrina took a devastating toll on the local sea harvests. Two-thirds of Louisiana's oysters have been destroyed. US had to resort to increase the oyster imports. Many fishermen who depended on the oyster industry find themselves to be unemployed. Floodwater in the city became contaminated household chemicals petroleum. It disturbed underground gas and oil tanks. Leaking sewer and gas pipes further contaminated the floodwater. Human corpses and dead pets further raised the risk of bacterial contamination. Placing dredged material for a platform for the plants to grow on. The Louisiana Coastal Area Ecosystem Restoration Plan is also planning to rebuild barrier islands and replant lost marsh grass.
